Business Litigation

The Jones Firm has built its business around its litigation practice.  The Firm has always maintained a case load of significant personal injury cases and commercial cases.  In addition to the focus upon representing claimants, the Firm is also state counsel for several unions including, the State’s largest teacher’s union (National Education Association of New Mexico, AFSCME (American Federation of State, County and Municipal employees) and several other local unions.  The Firm’s labor work has resulted in our firm establishing contacts throughout the state.  We have recently handled numerous matters in Las Cruces and Silver City, covering even the far south of the State.

Business LitigationThe Jones Firm has always maintained a transactional practice as well.  We have several lawyers that handle a large number of administrative matters, tax matters and estate planning.

Over the last number of years, the Firm has also represented the State of New Mexico in several unique cases.  We have represented the State in securities litigation that resulted in over $36 million in settlements against WorldCom and AOL/Time Warner.  Currently we are representing the State Tax and Revenue Department in litigation against a number of oil companies alleging underpayment of taxes.  After a difficult trial, the Firm was successful in obtaining a verdict of $2,833,000 at the trial level and the case is currently on appeal.

In short, the Firm handles a large spectrum of cases and legal matters.  However, the mainstay of the firm has long been representing plaintiffs in both large and small matters.  We also believe that certain cases need to be tried or pressed to the limit of trial to achieve a just result for our clients.  For this reason, we are always willing to try cases that cannot fairly be resolved.
